Bonus round
Moonlight Princess Free Spins and Bonus Buy Guide
Four princess scatters start 15 free spins, and every multiplier heart that lands on a win feeds a total multiplier for the whole round. Here's how the round works and pays, how our test round went, and what the ante bet and the bonus buy cost.
How to trigger the free spins
The princess scatter can land on every reel. You need 4 or more anywhere on the grid in one spin.
- The round starts with 15 free spins.
- The scatters pay first: 3x your bet for 4, 5x for 5 and 100x for 6.
- With the ante bet on, more scatters appear on the reels and the chance of a natural trigger doubles.
- You can also buy the round for 100x your bet.
Good to know: the game doesn't publish how often free spins trigger. Expect long stretches without them, even at medium volatility.
How the total multiplier works
Free spins move the game to a pink sunset, and a winged cat appears on the left holding a medal marked Total multiplier. This is what makes the round special.
Building the total
Whenever a multiplier heart lands and the spin results in a win, the heart's value is added to the total. The total lasts for the whole round and never resets. A heart that lands on a losing spin is simply lost.
When the total pays
On every spin where a new heart lands and wins, the whole total multiplies that spin's win. On winning spins without a new heart, the win is paid as it is, without the total. That's the most misunderstood rule in this family of games.
Retriggers
3 or more scatters during the round add 5 more free spins. The game also uses special reels during the round.
How a free spin pays
Every spin in the round is settled like this:
- The tumbles play out and all wins are added up.
- If no new heart landed, that sum is the spin's win.
- If new hearts landed and the spin won, their values are added to the total multiplier.
- The spin's win is multiplied by the new total.
The round's wins are added together and paid when it ends, up to the 5,000x cap.
Our test round, step by step
We bought the free spins in Fun Play at a 2.00 bet, which cost 200 in virtual credits. Here's how the 15 spins went.
- The trigger. Four scatters paid 6.00 (3x) and started 15 free spins.
- Spins 1–3. One small win with no hearts: 10 red heart gems paid 3.00.
- Spin 4. Tumbles of stars, cyan gems and yellow gems added up to 4.30, and a 2x and a 5x heart landed along the way. The total jumped to 7x, and the 4.30 became 30.10.
- Spin 6. Another 2x landed on a win. The total rose to 9x, and a 0.50 win became 4.50.
- Spins 7–9. Wins without new hearts, such as 11 yellow gems for 1.50, were paid without the 9x.
- Spin 10. A 5x heart landed, but the spin didn't win, so the total stayed at 9x.
- The end. Two more small wins without hearts, then the final spin brought a 5x and a 3x heart, again with no win. The round paid 49.90 in total.
The round returned 49.90 for a 200 buy, about a quarter of its price. The 7x and 9x totals never met a big win, and two late hearts landed on spins that didn't win.
One round proves nothing. This was a single round played with virtual credits. The buy returns 98.00% over a very large number of rounds, which means a few big rounds make up for many like ours.
A second round: how fast the total can grow
On 20 October we bought another round in Pragmatic Play's own Fun Play demo, again at a 2.00 bet. This one showed how quickly hearts can stack up:
- Spin 1. A 3x heart landed on a winning tumble and set the total at 3x.
- Spin 4. Another 3x and a 2x landed together on a win. The total jumped to 8x.
- Spin 8. Three hearts at once, 3x, 4x and 2x, landed on a winning tumble of blue gems. Together they add 9x more to the total.
By spin 8 the round had already paid 24.00, with seven free spins still to go. The screenshot shows the moment before the three new hearts are added to the 8x total.
Double Chance to Win: the ante bet
The ante switch on the left of the grid changes the bet multiplier from 20x to 25x, so each spin costs 1.25x your base bet: 2.50 instead of 2.00. In return, more scatters are added to the reels and the chance of triggering free spins naturally is doubled.
With the ante on, the bonus buy is switched off. The RTP stays at 98.00%. Over 100 spins at a 2.00 base bet, the ante adds 50 to your spend.
Buying the free spins
The Buy Free Spins button on the left starts the round at once for 100x your base bet. A confirmation window shows the price before anything is charged.
| Feature | Price | What you get | RTP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base game | 1x per spin | Normal spins | 98.00% |
| Double Chance to Win | 1.25x per spin | Double the chance of free spins. No bonus buy | 98.00% |
| Buy Free Spins | 100x per round | 15 free spins straight away | 98.00% |
