RTP by mode
The game's rules list one theoretical RTP for each way of playing. Unusually, all three are the same.
| Mode | Cost | RTP | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base game | 1x | 98.00% | 5,000x |
| Double Chance to Win (ante) | 1.25x | 98.00% | 5,000x |
| Buy Free Spins | 100x | 98.00% | 5,000x |
What a 98.00% RTP means
RTP is the share of all money staked that a game pays back over a very large number of spins. At 98.00%, the house keeps 2.00% on average.
In practice: if players stake 100,000 in total, the game is designed to pay back about 98,000 of it across all of them. Your own session can land far above or below that, because RTP only settles over millions of spins. It tells you the price of playing, not what you'll win today.
For comparison, most online slots sit around 96%, a house edge of about 4%. At 98%, Moonlight Princess costs roughly half as much per spin on average.
Why 98% and not 96.5%?
Pragmatic Play offers casinos several RTP versions of most of its games. Starlight Princess, which Moonlight Princess is built on, usually runs at about 96.5%. Stake files Moonlight Princess under Enhanced RTP, its section for games set above the usual figure.
If the game reaches other casinos later, don't assume the same number. Open the rules in the game and check the RTP line before you play.
Does buying the bonus change the RTP?
No. The rules give 98.00% for the buy, the same as normal spins. A buy changes how the return arrives, in fewer and bigger chunks, not how much of it there is. The same goes for the ante bet. Prices and a calculator are on the free spins page.
Medium volatility in practice
The rules rate the game as medium volatility. They describe it as paying out steadily, with a range of pays from low to very high.
- Gem wins of 0.25x to 1.5x come along fairly often, often over several tumbles.
- The big payouts need multiplier hearts, and the biggest need them in free spins, where the total keeps growing.
- A total multiplier only pays on spins where a new heart lands and wins, so a round can build a high total and still pay little.
Neither Stake nor Pragmatic publishes a hit frequency or a free spins frequency for this game. Stake also tags it "Volatility Switch", but we found no volatility setting in the game itself. Use the free demo to get a feel for the rhythm before you play for money.
The 5,000x max win
The cap is 5,000x your bet. If a round reaches it, the round ends straight away, the win is paid up to the cap and any remaining free spins are forfeited. Here's that ceiling at different bets:
| Bet | Max win |
|---|---|
| 0.20 | 1,000.00 |
| 1.00 | 5,000.00 |
| 10.00 | 50,000.00 |
| 300.00 | 1,500,000.00 |
How likely is it?
Very unlikely in any one session. Reaching 5,000x takes a big tumble chain combined with a large total multiplier in free spins. The cap exists so the game has a defined maximum, not because it's a realistic goal. Pragmatic doesn't publish max-win odds.
How it compares
5,000x is modest by 2026 standards. Starlight Princess 1000 and Gates of Olympus 1000 go to 15,000x, and many newer slots go higher still. Moonlight Princess trades a lower ceiling for a higher RTP.
How it compares with similar Pragmatic slots
| Game | RTP | Max win |
|---|---|---|
| Moonlight Princess (Stake) | 98.00% | 5,000x |
| Starlight Princess | 96.50% | 5,000x |
| Gates of Olympus | 96.50% | 5,000x |
| Starlight Princess 1000 | About 96.5% | 15,000x |
| Gates of Olympus 1000 | 96.50% | 15,000x |
Casinos can run lower RTP versions of the other games, so check the rules wherever you play them.
